Nicolas Planson
Pencils, Pastels, Ink, Acrylic, and Oil on Canvas
A painter who has made Brittany his home, Nicolas Planson has turned this passion into his profession
for over thirty years.
Over the years, he has developed a rigorous approach to oil painting,
inspired by the chiaroscuro of the Flemish masters, the luminous romanticism of the
“Hudson River School,” and a long exploration of portraiture.
This journey has naturally led him toward painting the living world.
About
For several years now, his artwork has focused on wildlife,
primarily from Africa: majestic antelopes, big cats with piercing gazes,
colossal pachyderms, and powerful animal figures—often depicted alone—set
against shifting, almost abstract pictorial spaces. Each of his canvases
seeks to convey the power, fragility, and grace of living creatures.
Alongside this meaningful collection that is so dear to him, Nicolas continues to
cultivate his passion for drawing, primarily through his animal sketches,
but also by sharing his knowledge through drawing and
painting workshops held in his studio and in collaboration with other organizations.
Nicolas Planson exhibits his works throughout France.
He has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the Rambouillet Wildlife Art
Biennial in 2024, was a finalist for “Wildlife Artist of the Year” at the
David Shepherd Foundation in London in 2023, and was the “Coup de Cœur” Guest of Honor at
the most recent National Salon of Wildlife Artists in Bry-sur-Marne (2025).
